Wind energy at Sumba island

Sumba will make large steps in the coming years in its ambition to become 100% sustainable.
Pondera South East Asia is developing 3 1MW wind turbines on Sumba Iconic island.

Since 2010 the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and Hivos are working together to develop the Sumba Iconic Island / SII (Pulau Ikonis Energi Terbarukan) program. The program aims to provide reliable energy access to communities living on small and medium-sized islands in Indonesia, through the utilization of renewable energy.

The target is the availability of energy derived from renewable energy. This program is expected to encourage the economy to improve the welfare of the people of Sumba Island and can serve as an example in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia.
